My Future

Posted by MWolfe

I plan to go to USF for the next four years and study Computer Science or Computer Engineering. I want to travel to Korea next year for the first semester of school in a Study Abroad program, I am interested in learning Korean. When I finish college I will decide whether to follow the path of an engineer and go for my masters degree or jump to law. I will try and go to either FSU, UF, or Stetson University for a law degree in Intellectual Property and take my bar exams and LSAT's. I will try to become a patent agent or patent attorney. I am not volatile in my plans usually, but there is still possibility that I will take another route in my life because of my interests. I do not have much planned after that rather than to live a successful life for a while and show my parents it was a good idea to come to the United States for their children. As long as I am enjoying myself, I will be happy with my future.

Productive Hobbies Open Topic

Posted by MWolfe

I have my hobbies that I believe will add value to me as a person. Most hobbies like this are all “creative” hobbies. I am currently practice beatboxing, where I make silly noises with my mouth that end up sounding like a beat to a song, computer coding, trying to learn how to code certain programs to help me out in my day to day use of my computer, and music production, where I spend countless hours learning how to use computer applications to recreate sound oscillations and other tools such as synthesizers where I recreate analog sounds with a computer... I like certain music types and would love to make my own music just as artists who love art , love to paint... I like to make music, it is a more beautiful art to me. . I have on my to-do list some hobbies or activities I'd like to get into. I want to learn how to play the keyboard/piano because it will help me understand music which will help me create better music with my programs. I want to start practicing parkour, which is a non-competitive sport. It will get me into shape and help me learn discipline and maybe learn my limits as an athlete. I think their will be al ot more things I will be interested through the course of my college experience, I have gotten interest in some clubs, such as the Society of Automotive Engineers, IEEE, and programming societies. Every week there is a meeting for local practitioners of parkour that I'd like to attend regularly and learn more of the sport.

WoW

Posted by MWolfe

One of the many things that I hate about myself is that I do many things that are not beneficial to my life. I want to tell you about Blizzard's game called World of Warcraft that has over 8 million subscribers. The game consists of a real time world where people connect to from all over the world and complete quests together and many other things. I have played this game since launch and have quit many times, The game seems to have me coming back again and again. This time I got back into the game because a new expansion pack came out for the game adding content. I have not played this game for over a year and decided to play again. I knew when I was buying this game I was going to sacrifice a lot of my time towards absolutely nothing beneficial to me. I think of the game as the best game in the world and the worst game in the world at the same time. There are a ton of WoW addicts that get emotionally attached to this game and never want to leave it. You can read other's detox processes on www.wowdetox.com if you want more info. WoW is a massive game that has taken over 120 days from my life in just play time, which means time that I am actually logged into the game is 120 days.

Veterans Day

Posted by MWolfe

I celebrated Veterans day by sleeping in, the best kind of reward I could get. For the rest of the entire day I spoke to my friend from Korea and coded my website for my Foundations of Engineering class. I thought the project was due today but it turns out the proffessor sent us an "email" telling us to attend one of three campus events and write a 500 word summary of it. Luckily for me, I ignored the email, I was not expecting a teacher to contact us via email for an assignment, that is what Blackboard is for. For the entire day I worked on my website, making sure my DIV's aligned correctly. I don't usually celebrate holidays or birthdays because I was raised as a Jehovah's witness and they do not celebrate any holidays other than passover.

Susie Scribbles

Posted by MWolfe

I don't know who the author of "Susie Scribbles" was, but he or she has gone from thinking about something simple and explored all possible areas of the subject. If I was to see a doll that could write , it would not invoke as much thoughts as he or she had. The author speaks about her processes of writing and use of writing technologies throughout her life. I think that this entire article was used as an agent for brainstorming our third projects. It gives us solid ideas of writing technologies and the writing incarnate that perhaps we have never took the time to think about for ourselves. Article allows us to see a much broader aspect when it comes to communication through writing. I did not manage to read the entire article due to its length and predictability due to its constant drive down one path, but from what I've gained is a deeper understanding of how we as humans connect through writing, the drudgery involved and the effort put in.

Project 1 vs Project 2

Posted by MWolfe

Project two was much easier for me to do than project one due to my previous inexperiences. On project one I had made grammatical, spelling, and logical mistakes within my paper. I've spent much time on project one only to realize that the time I've spent was wasted because I had created tangents. I am now more aware of writing in the active voice, transitioning, and removing useless words. The experience I've gained from project one contributed to my project two in the way that I had less time spent working on project two and more confidence. On project two I had the issue of repeating myself and going from one subject to another and then back to the first subject over and over. It was easier to rewrite my project two than it was to rewrite my project one because project two had all the on-topic information that I wanted, but only scrambled around. Project one had many off-topic subjects that I had to eliminate as well as change my entire main idea of the essay, ultimately having me write a new essay.

Missing assignments

Posted by MWolfe

I'm on top of everything and I have all these assignments completed before their due date. I get to class ready to turn in one of many assignments, but when it is time to turn in the assignment we are to turn in one more additional assignment that I completely forgot about. I hate it when I forget these minuscule assignments that I believe will put a dent in my grades. I was supposed to write a resume letter along with a summer for a engineering session for today, but instead I only wrote the summary and completely forget the resume due to all the mayhem going on in the week. Just when I feel I have everything under control, something like this slips by underneath me. I need to think clearer and check my USF BB more often, so that I am more organized than I am currently.

Parkour

Posted by MWolfe

Parkour is my favorite sport/discipline. Sometimes the name is interchanged with Free Running, but have their own definitions. It is still being developed because it is a fairly new sport originating from France in the 90's. Parkour is more of a discipline to the ones who practice it rather than a sport. Parkour has no competition involved, which most sports are competitive with other players. Parkour is more like a discipline, because it is defined as the art of displacement, getting from A to B in the most fluid manner. Parkour is a great discipline because it not only conditions you physically but mentally. Parkour requires a powerful body, quick and strong, yet it requires the practitioner, called a traceur, to be mentally prepared to face any obstacle they may come across. Over time Parkour will build your confidence within yourself by showing you your physical and mental limits, in turn bringing with it motivation and a deeper relationship with yourself.

Electronics

Posted by MWolfe

We as a human race have advanced in the last couple of decades in major strides. We have technology today that was not available to us before. Internet is insanely important for many of us to function today in 2008. We have weaponry that could take out this entire planet, advances are being made daily. I recently bought myself a laptop, the idea of having a box that can retrieve news, weather, and information from the entire globe is something that was unthinkable 200 years ago. With todays sophisticated internet programming languages, programmers are creating websites that can do things which were not possible. Myspace and Facebook connect millions of users together in social networking sites, google answers almost any question you throw at it, online games allow you to interact with others in ways not possible offline. Organizing data is much easier with the computers and internet, you don't have to use many resources, even our school has it's databases accessible online. Our assignments, grades, teacher communication, and much more USF school related tools are all accessible online. With my laptop, I could save myself from waking up in the morning to write this journal and instead write my journals in between class, in the comfort of anywhere on campus. I believe we should continue advancing until everyone replaces paper, backpacks, books, with portable books that display information and connect to the net. OLED's are one of these technological advancements which make this possible.

Ad Analysis

Posted by MWolfe

The advertisement is just two signs attached to PVC pipe that is berried in the ground. You can tell from the Makeshift signs and lettering that the advertisement was created by someone who does not want to look professional, most likely a teenager. Pit bulls are known as some of the most aggressive dog species, if I was to put the two advertisements together, I would not want my kids being baby-sat in a house by a teenager who has pit-bulls running around. There have been many incidents where pit bulls have killed infants on the news. The advertisement was thrown together without much prior preparation making it less appealing to the audience. The person who made the advertisement placed it in the middle of nowhere probably on the side of a highway in the middle of a desert in Texas. Location is important to attract particular audiences.

Kalvin vs Old Spice Critique

Posted by MWolfe

I reviewed a paper about two men's deodorant companies produced by Kyle Stedman. I approached this paper thinking that it was an epitome of our advertisement project. I kept this mind-state until I approached the half way mark of the essay. I began to notice the lack of grammar and the common misspellings of words. I was disappointed, this essay was not a model that I should be getting ideas from for writing my essay. I in fact mimic the idea of using a scenario as my introductory paragraph in order to grab my audience's attention. The remaining issues with the paper are not within the context of the essay, but the overall essay and it's components. The essay just barely meets the 1000 word minimum and the works cited page consists of citations linking to Wikipedia. People that quote Wikipedia should take the time to go to their relative Wikipedia pages and take from the "references" section sources that are relative to the information they've quoted in their essays.

Managing Time

Posted by MWolfe

When I first started college I was doing my homework on time and my assignments on time, but for the past three weeks I've procrastinated. It is a lot easier to procrastinate when all your assignments are not due the next day, instead they are due on a specific due date, allowing you to put off assignments till the very last day. I knew it would not be a wise decision to put off my assignments but I did, and I payed the price for doing so. After experiencing the pain of procrastination the old saying, "Hard world pays off over time, but procrastination pays off NOW!" does not seem as appealing to me as it used too, still funny though. Because I procrastinated, my entire week was me doing my math homework, practicing for my math exam, and writing a paper on piracy, this took a total of 30 hours in the short five days that I had. That mean't I was working on my assignments way into the night, and waking up the next day tired. I've learned my lesson, procrastination is not healthy. Allowing yourself to have balance in your days in the activities you do allows you to live more healthy and enjoy your life much more. I'm writing this blog way before it is due, and I hope I'll apply my anti-procrastination policies in the other stuff I have to do as well.

Advising Offices at USF

Posted by MWolfe

The lady from the advising council came into class today to speak about using our brains when it comes to safety. She told us about real life occurrences of people being attacked and showed us examples on what we can do in order to make ourselves more alert. She explained to us on how to use the "key-trick" correctly, taught us urinal protocol, explained to us why we should use our less dominant hands to hold our phones while we talk, she explained to us the drugs being used on campus and how we can spot them, and she showed us how to make sure our drinks are not tampered with and how to hold them. Overall the good points of her discussion was that she got the point across to everyone, that everyone is susceptible to an attack. The bad points of her discussion was that she doubted herself and made fun of herself a couple of times during the discussion to get us to listen to her, cheesy.

Ad #1 Blog

Posted by MWolfe

There is an advertisement for a Dodge Ram Crew 1500 that stands out to me, it is red white and black which are my favorite colors and it tells me to, "Never Back Down From A Challenge" pulling me into the ad. The advertisement completely engulfs the entire page with it's red and shows a bold picture of it's advertised product, the Dodge Ram Crew 1500. There even is a video that explains in depth the Dodge Ram Crew 1500 utilizing special effects to capture the audiences eye. The ad considers that you already know about Dodge, the American car manufacturer, they just tell you that there is a NEW 2009 model coming out, this leaves you with wanting more information which in turn has you going to there website, www.RamChallenge.com. Overall this ad captures your emotions, it makes you feel that you will be more manly if you buy the Dodge Ram Crew 1500, that you will be more respected with a heavy duty towering truck. The ad has no authority because it does not give any information that can be questioned, it is all factual. The underlying meaning is not literally expressed. I understand fully what the advertisement is trying to sell me, and it makes a good impression.

The Carousel Ad

Posted by MWolfe

I thought the guy's advertisement strategy has it's place and can be very powerful, but to use nostalgia in a picture slide shower as it's sales key will only get you so many customers. If he was to incorporate the nostalgia strategy into a clothes brand name or style then I would see the practicality of people longing to wear what they used too when they were smaller and in turn wearing clothes of the same brand or style they have grown up in. While watching the clip I was wondering throughout the clip, what is this thing they are trying to market? When I saw the Kodak's picture slide viewer I was disappointed in what the product was but I understood from the man's point of view on why he would use nostalgia and the idea of using the word carousel, rather than wheel, to describe a device that shifts through nostalgic pictures in a big circle, eventually ending where you started and repeating over again.

My Essay

Posted by MWolfe

This is the first time I wrote a personal, yet formal, essay. When writing my paper I had to make sure everything I wrote down was properly cited because I did not want to have any trouble with plagiarism in my paper, even if the paper is based on my own past thoughts and experiences. I have put in a total of ten hours in the paper and what I got from it is not as satisfactory as I want it to be. The paper might have been long and covered many topics, but that was just the opposite of what it needed to be. My paper needed to be much more focused on the experiences I had. The experiences were the most important because they had an influence on my perspective of the Polish culture. I wrote a lot of factual information and my experiences on traveling, but I did not focus on the feelings that I have experienced about the small things that I have done. I learned from writing this paper that it is not good to have a broad and scattered paper, rather, having a small and focused paper is much more clear to the reader and still gets the point across. From my mistakes, I have learned to not stick to one subject if I don't completely understand it and that I should have picked a more simpler subject.

Adventure Island

Posted by MWolfe

I've been to Adventure Island about fives times in my life and over the summer I've went to Adventure Island twice. The first time I went to the water-park with my parents and I was satisfied by the park, and was willing to return another day. The second time I went to the park was with my parent's friend's family. That family consisted of a mutual friend of mine for a long time. The second time at Adventure Island proved satisfying once again, but not to the fullest extent. The third time I went to Adventure Island with my friends and no parents, this time was the most enjoyable. Without parents we could go where we want, stay how long we want, and be teenagers. The last time I went to Adventure Island, I was expecting to have a great time due to the satisfaction trend only rising higher and higher, but because each time I went to Adventure Island with a different set of people, the experience changed and kept me entertained. If you are constantly repeating the same thing over and over it will become monotonous to you, and you will eventually loose interest in it. Having went to Adventure Island twice with my friends made the third time unexpectedly less satisfying. It is to the point where I wish that I did not spend the money to go to Adventure Island for the second time during the summer, and rather have spent it on something else.

Rant on Cola

Posted by MWolfe

When we are born the only fluids we should be consuming are milk and water. I believe we should not be drinking any other beverages unless they are used for medicinal purposes. Every animal on this planet drinks water, milk, and body fluids. Animals drink milk until they are old enough to drink water and never drink milk naturally again. We should avoid drinking milk and sodas because milk causes gastrointestinal problems and could contain steroids. Sodas are full of high sugar syrups called high fructose corn syrups which are a cheep source of table sugar, C6H12O6. This cheaper substitute confuses the brain because it is not picked up as a sugar and the body does not know what to do with it, placing it straight into your fat storage. Cola is often advertised as the king of beverages, when I go to the movie theaters and see the big screen cola adds. I think to myself what a overrated source of empty calories. Most people do not realize that a large cola from McDonald's contains close to 310 calories, but the same amount of water is zero calories. One pound is 3,500 calories, if you do the calculations, over time you will gain unwanted pounds just from drinking cola if you do not take the time to exercise the 310 calories from your body which is equivalent to one hour of bicycling.

"Stand By Me"

Posted by MWolfe

The movie "Stand By Me" is a good example of a memoir because it reflects on a past memory which has had an impact in shaping someone's life. Gordie used the memory of his childhood to understand how the experience has shaped who he had become, he looks at himself presently and can answer questions about himself because he can recall the experiences he had when he was a child, the experiences that modified who he is or what he was planning to be when he got older. A film adaptation version of a Stephen King novel is different from the novel because there is no reader to interpret the story in a way that you see is correct; instead you are given the scenes and your only job is to process the images through your head rather than create your own images. Knowing King's Novels there would be a mysterious sense within the novel and dark, eerie adjectives scattered all across the book, creating a dark and spooky atmosphere. The movie which I've seen did not seem like something that King would write about because it lacked the horror and mystery elements that King likes to use.

Library meeting day

Posted by MWolfe

I've learned many things about the USF library on library training day. I've learned to locate books, use refworks, search the library, and search various databases. I liked how the instructor decided to use Poland as the keyword for every search he made, which directly helped me with finding information for my project one memoir draft. I also enjoyed using the clickers to answer questions on the overhead display even though as a joke when I decided to input and incorrect answer. I was astonished by the shear amount of information that can be found in the databases through the USF library research section online. An example would be that one of the databases has periodicals from London that range from the 1700's to the current day; all available to view online and export to refworks! I learned that using Wikipedia as a source of information is not the best way to go about writing papers. One should rather search the endless amount of information in our organized library and paid databases that are only available to USF students. If you still choose to use Wikipedia, you should scroll down to the citations, read the cited content, and use that information rather than the already cited work on Wikipedia. All in all, the library meeting day for ENC 1101 was a very informational event and without it I would never have this new, altered, perception of the USF library's importance.

Living in Florida

Posted by MWolfe

I've moved a couple of times in my life. I have been to more places than the average American, and most everywhere I would go I'd see great things and bad things. I moved to Florida only because my family "trialed" it for one week and we found it to be a very lovely place. I moved to Florida when I was going to fifth grade during the summer vacation of 2000. Florida is the southernmost place I've lived in. I've lived in Warsaw, Poland, Haskell, New Jersey, and Garfield, New Jersey; out of all those places I've come to enjoy Florida the most because of It being peaceful. Two of Florida's cities are found on the top twenty-five most dangerous cities list by crime:population ratio and we're in one of them. I like Florida because it's so different from what I was used to. In Florida there are lizards, clean streets, clean cars, palm trees, crocodiles, amusement parks, diverse people, tourists, giant houses, water water everywhere, hot weather, and beaches. The bad things about Florida would be humidity, hurricanes, crime, no snow, and nothing is in walking distance.
